Types of Funds

Give from a Donor-Advised Fund.

Stay actively involved in your charitable giving, working with the Foundation to recommend grants annually to support local nonprofits and timely causes from the donor-advised fund you create. There are two types of donor-advised funds: 1) donor-advised endowed funds, and 2) donor-advised pass-through funds. Here's a chart that explains the differences.

Give to the Community: The Community Endowment Fund.

Through the Community Endowment Fund, you give the Community Foundation the flexibility to address the issues that matter most to St. Joseph County—today, tomorrow, or whenever need occurs.

Give to a Favorite Cause.

To address challenges that face our community, the Community Foundation has created multiple funds in the arts, education, and other broad areas. Your gift to one of these funds stays flexible enough to meet community needs in your interest area, even as they change over time. Choose from our existing initiative funds, or create a field of interest fund that reflects your priorities.

Give to a Scholarship Fund.

Support our community’s smart and deserving students by donating to one of the Community Foundation's many scholarship funds.

Give to a Favorite Charity: Organizational Endowment Funds.

Chances are, your favorite charity has a designated fund here at the Foundation already. By supporting these endowment funds, you help guarantee the future for the nonprofit organizations you care about the most.

Donor Story

David and Pam Jarrett

Community Foundation donors David and Pam Jarrett give their time—serving on nonprofit boards and volunteering with organizations such as LOGAN—but they’ve also developed a pool of financial resources for philanthropy. In 1997, they established a donor-advised fund with the Community Foundation and have added to it every year.
